Reverence for Life is:
ACCEPTING WITH GRATITUDE THE GIFTS SUPPORTING OUR LIVES AND KNOWING HOW TO USE THEM WISELY
Human life cannot exist in isolation. However dominant and independent we may feel ourselves to be at the head of the food chain, we are in fact more dependent and vulnerable than most other creatures and it befits us to gratefully acknowledge this.
- Let us thank the bees and other insects for pollinating our crops and the earthworms for aerating and improving the fertility of our soil rather than allowing them to be poisoned to extinction.
- Let us gratefully protect the trees for absorbing the CO2 we overproduce and for releasing the oxygen which sustains our breath and heartbeat. Let us stop slashing and burning the forests to rear cattle to feed our lust for meat.
- It has been calculated that the 4,900 litres of water needed to produce one beef burger are equivalent to having a normal shower every day for three months: a wise or wasteful use of water?
