DAY ONE:

Reverence for Life is:

LIVING IN HARMONY WITH THE CONDITIONS PREVAILING ON EARTH AND WITH HER PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE

The ancients had identified five elements which make up the world experienced through our five physical senses, and had named them: Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Ether (or Space)

Whilst the language of science has elaborated on this simple understanding, it still holds good as an interpretation of our everyday experience.  This week we will concentrate on Water.

 - All five elements are essential to life, but water has a central part to play;

 - It is thought that organic life on Earth had its beginnings in the ocean;

 - Space exploration looks for traces of water as signs of life on other planets;

 - Organic life on earth is unique in our solar system because of the specific distance of the earth from the sun, which allows water to exist here in its three states: vapour, liquid and ice;

 - Water is fundamental to photosynthesis and respiration, which are processes essential to all living cells;
