VALITA
Reference for Life UK works in partnership with VALITA, a charity in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, that helps people who are affected by HIV/AIDS and other hardships.
We support VALITA to make a real difference in the lives of women, children, and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Many of them are left destitute after losing their loved ones to this devastating virus. Through their communal home and sustainable permaculture farm, VALITA provides food, shelter, and hope to those most in need.
We have helped VALITA to buy a plot of land in Dar es Salaam and construct a building to provide a communal home.
We have funded two members of VALITA to attend a permaculture course. Permaculture is an approach to land management that focusses on working with nature to create sustainable ecosystems. Using the ecological principles they learnt on this course, VALITA are transforming their land into an environmentally sustainable farm that produces food for the residents, the surrounding community, and the people in their outreach programme.
We have developed a relationship with the local school and funded a water pump so that the teachers and students have a supply of running water.
There is still much more to do to fully realise our shared vision.
