We have some incredible news—thanks to a generous donation from the Cauda Trust, VALITA is launching an exciting new project on the KAYA permaculture farm! They’re now producing their very own fresh milk from a small but mighty herd of dairy cattle!

The cows and their calves will shelter in a cattle shed that the volunteers at VALITA have built and will feed on specially planted napier grass grown on the permaculture farm.

The residents at KAYA are learning valuable farming skills by looking after the cows and now enjoy fresh milk alongside the large range of fruit and vegetables grown on their 5-acre permaculture plot.  The surplus milk will be sold to the surrounding community to raise money for VALITA.

Dominic Malesa, founder of VALITA, says that “VALITA embraces the ethics of Reverence for Life which is based in its vision of creating a society that values life in all its varied forms including the environments that support it. VALITA will respect the cattle’s symbiotic relationship with humans and the environment, which is important for building our eco-community on the Bustani ya Binadamu land. This project is a practical manifestation of living the ethics of Reverence for Life through sharing life with others at Kaya and outside Kaya, supporting vulnerable people suffering from HIV/AIDS and the vulnerable people that VALITA supports. VALITA will treat the cattle with the consciousness that, ‘I am life that wills to live, and I exist in the midst of life that wills to live, Albert Schweitzer’.”
