In May 2024, RfLUK funded a core team of volunteers from VALITA to undertake an intensive course in Arusha, Tanzania to learn a variety of traditional craft skills and also develop their knowledge about how to set up and run their own craft workshops at Kaya.

They learnt how to do basketry and make cement flowerpots, create beautifully decorated bottles and lay decorative pavements using recycled plastic.

By experiencing first hand successful craft organisations in Arusha they learnt how to market and sell their products. They are using their new skills to plan for their future workshops and permaculture training centre project.

After returning from the course Frank Ngluwa reported that:

“This experience wasn't just about acquiring skills; it was about transformation. Witnessing the dedication and creativity of the artisans we met, coupled with the inspiring impact of Sanaa's work, served as a powerful catalyst. We returned with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to take tangible action. The trip opened our eyes to the possibilities of our craft workshop at VALITA and inspired us to develop it further, striving for positive outcomes that benefit our own community.”
