Business Fund for Widows

Many women in Dar Es Salaam who have lost their husbands to AIDS find themselves in the difficult situation of having to care for their children and grandchildren, as the sole provider for their families. Without the money to set up their own businesses they are left with no way to earn money. VALITA has created a business fund to support these widows by providing them with a start-up grant.

VALITA works with the women to help them develop a business plan and create a profitable business. They meet all the women once a month to provide business training. The women run businesses such as fruit and vegetable stalls, restaurants and collecting plastic litter to sell to recycling centres.
